At Freedom, your safety is our top priority — not just when you're choosing the perfect piece for your home, but long after it’s delivered. In line with new government regulations introduced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), a mandatory safety standard has been established to help prevent furniture tip-overs. From 4 May 2025, certain types of furniture must carry clear safety warnings to alert customers to the risks of toppling furniture — an important step to help protect every Australian household, especially families with young children. Sadly, incidents involving furniture tip-overs have resulted in serious injuries and fatalities over the years, and this regulation is designed to ensure greater awareness and encourage safer living spaces.
Freedom is proud to be supporting this change. As part of the new Consumer Goods (Toppling Furniture) Information Standard 2024, you’ll now see important warning labels on applicable products such as clothing storage units, bookcases over 68.6cm tall, entertainment units, and other tall furniture pieces like buffets, hall tables, and display cabinets. These labels, along with updated assembly instructions and in-store signage, are all part of our commitment to help you make informed choices. We strongly encourage anchoring your furniture — it's a simple step that can make a life-saving difference.
We know that your home should be a safe haven, and these changes are just one way we’re helping you create spaces that are not only beautiful but secure. If you have any questions about these new labels or how to safely anchor your furniture, our friendly team is always here to help. Together, we can help reduce risks and build safer homes — one beautiful piece at a time.

We strongly recommend using Freedom’s anti-topple wall anchor hardware to secure your furniture. All products with a potential topple risk are provided with a anti-topple wall fixing hardware. It’s a simple step that can dramatically reduce the risk of serious injuries caused by furniture tip-overs, particularly in homes with young children or pets. Anchoring your furniture isn’t just a recommendation — it’s an easy, powerful action to help protect what matters most.
By properly attaching, mounting, bolting, or otherwise securing your furniture to walls or floors, you create a safe and stable environment. It’s also important to keep heavier items on lower shelves of bookcases, place televisions securely at the back of cabinets or mount them to the wall, and discourage children from climbing on furniture. Tempting items like toys should be kept off high surfaces to avoid encouraging adventurous little climbers, and unstable furniture should never be placed where children play. For extra security, adding locking devices to drawers can also prevent them from becoming unintentional "stepping ladders."
Freedom’s anti-topple kits are designed to work seamlessly with our furniture ranges and make anchoring as straightforward as possible. Whether you’re setting up a sleek entertainment unit, a stylish tallboy, or a cozy bookcase, securing it to the wall can help prevent life-altering accidents. Peace of mind has never been so easy to install.
