Rugs are gorgeous additions to every room, add incredible colour, texture and warmth to the space and in some cases even separate rooms in an open-plan design. But wherever you place your rug, you’ll need an underlay to keep it steady in place.

Rug underlays are pieces of stickier or rougher material that help secure the rug and prevent slipping, even on heavier rugs. Homeowners with busy kids and dogs will know how easy it is to skid over a rug and lose your footing on a rug without a non-slip mat. Not only is this dangerous for the person or pet, but it's damaging to the rug and a pain to keep adjusting its position. Another benefit of the underlay is for floor protection, keeping the rug in place, unwrinkled and giving the floor surface an extra layer of padding in high traffic areas.

The underlay you choose needs to be the correct size to fit your rug, but also has to be the right thickness so that it fits seamlessly underneath the rug without causing bumps, lumps or an obvious ridge around the sides.
