Meals deserve to be made special with gorgeous tablecloths and runners which add texture, colour and theme to your event.

Runners can be dressed up for fancy evening dos and dressed down for more informal lunches. Materials like silk and satin look beautiful for dinner while more rustic fabrics like jute, leather and hessian are perfect for farm-style tables and long Mediterranean lunches. Select your length of runner carefully – you don’t want one that is too short for the table, but one too long will hang awkwardly and untidily onto the floor, restricting leg space for your diners.

A length of your forearm should drape over the short sides of rectangular, square and oval tables. Another clever way to use runners is to lay a few of them across the table to double as placemats –  providing fabric for each opposite diner.

Tablecloths are the more traditional choice and you can never go wrong with the classic, French-bistro style white linen model. Style this kind with beautiful long stemmed glassware and luxury napkins for an indulgent 5 star feel. Brightly patterned tablecloths can make the meal experience festive and can help establish a theme. If you’re going full Mexican with your menu, consider gorgeous desert colours like rust or soft floral prints for a ladies’ lunch.
