742x175 Summer Outdoor Furniture Care

Occasional outdoor furniture

Occasional refers to outdoor furniture that isn’t designed to be permanently outdoors.

DO

  • Keep furniture undercover or store away during wet weather to keep it looking good for longer.
  • Canvas, painted metal or timber should be stored indoor after use. These types of products are usually designed to fold-away, making them easy to store.

DON’T

  • Don’t fold canvas furniture, like umbrellas and directors chairs, when they’re wet, otherwise the canvas will get mouldy.

Permanent outdoor furniture

We test our outdoor ranges for toughness, to make sure they’re durable and OK to live outside. Over time, all wooden furniture will naturally change to a grey colour.

DO

  • Clean and oil timber furniture at least twice a year. Remove oil and dirt with a stiff brush and apply "Outdoor Timber Oil" with a paintbrush. Leave for a few hours and wipe off excess.
  • Furniture made with polyester, man-made wickers and aluminium can be simply washed down with warm soapy water and left to dry naturally. Do it at least twice a year.
  • We strongly recommend you use an umbrella base when using an umbrella, especially with a glass tabletop.
  • Bring umbrellas inside if it’s really windy.

DON’T

  • Don’t leave outdoor cushions outside in heavy rain. Most outdoor cushions will accept a light soaking, but in heavy rain we recommend you store them dry. Read the care label for more information.
